Data journalists from around the world can apply for this new award.<\/p>\n

The Sigma Awards<\/a>\u00a0were created by\u00a0Aron Pilhofer<\/a>\u00a0(Temple University) and\u00a0Reginald Chua<\/a>\u00a0(Reuters), with support from\u00a0Simon Rogers<\/a>\u00a0(Google), and\u00a0Marianne Bouchart<\/a>\u00a0(HEI-DA), sponsored by the\u00a0Google News Initiative<\/a>\u00a0and hosted by the\u00a0European Journalism Centre<\/a>‘s\u00a0DataJournalism.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The categories are\u00a0best data-driven reporting (small and large newsrooms);\u00a0best visualization (small and large newsrooms); innovation (small and large newsrooms); young journalist; open data; and\u00a0best news applications.<\/p>\n

Works must have been published in 2019.\u00a0Entries in languages other than English should offer as much translation as possible.<\/p>\n

The winners will participate in the\u00a0International Journalism Festival April 1 to 5 in Perugia, Italy, where\u00a0they will learn from each other and build\u00a0relationships and collaborations.<\/p>\n

The deadline is Feb. 4.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
